Comments From First Vice President

 

The Club Team Championship tournament is scheduled for Saturday, January 24th, 2009 in Clearwater. By a majority vote the rules for this tournament were changed again by the FSHPA Executive Council this year. The team members combined ringer percentage cannot exceed 260. A rule change was also made regarding the host club and the tie breaker was changed if two are more teams are tied for 1st place. The complete rules should be published elsewhere in this newsletter. It’s time to start forming your teams now. We need to remember this is supposed to be a fun tournament that will bring all of the clubs together at one place to pitch horseshoes, socialize, and have fun. Last year 15 teams from 8 clubs participated. Any team pitching close to their combined team ringer percentage has an excellent chance of winning. I hope all of the clubs will participate.

 

The Days Inn Clearwater Central Motel at 2940 Gulf to Bay Blvd has agreed to give us a special rate for the Club Team Championship tournament on Saturday, 1/24/2009.

As the Hall of Fame Committee Chairman I would like to remind everyone that the deadline for Hall of Fame nominations is March 1st, 2009. Anyone may recommend a candidate. The nominating letter should be addressed to the Chairman, Hall of Fame Committee and contain a history of the candidate’s accomplishments in sufficient detail to permit an intelligent evaluation of the person’s entitlement to this recognition. Hall of Fame nominees must have been a resident of Florida and an FSHPA Inc. member for a minimum of five years. Nominees must be an outstanding player or a member who has performed outstanding service to FSHPA Inc., and/or NHPA, over a period of many years.

 

The Clearwater Horseshoe Club has been selected to host the first of (6) Pro Tour Tournaments located throughout the United States. The Clearwater Challenge HP Pro Tour Tournament will be March 27-29, 2009. The HP Pro Tour seeks to bring together the elite players of this sport from across the United States and Canada. Whether you come to Clearwater as one of the elite players or as a spectator, you will be able to meet and watch some of the best pitchers in the world.
