COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENTS

DECEMBER 2009

This year our association will be celebrating 50 years. At our recent Executive Council

meeting the council approved the ordering of a commemorative patch that will be given

to each participant at the State Tournament. The Executive Council along with the

Brevard County Horseshoe Club is in the planning stages on making this a memorable

occasion that you will not want to miss. Make plans now to pitch in this years State

Tournament.

The Club Team Tournament rules were finalized  (see the rules that are printed in this

newsletter) and will be held at Clearwater on January 30, 2010. The EC approved the

rules and I can assure you that these rules will not be changed and the tournament will be

held as schedule. This is a great event and I am looking forward to attending and seeing

everyone.

Starting in June of this year, tournament fees was increased to $2.00 to help off set the

loss of income that was generated from our Game Related Item sales. At our last meeting

we discussed ways to reduce expenses, as we did not want to follow the government way

of doing business. The council is submitting a By-Law change (to be voted on at our

Annual Club/Presidents meeting in April) to reduce the number of council members to

five. The Past President and Forth VP are the two council members that would be

removed. The duties of the two members will be distributed among the remaining council

members. Expenses paid by the association are: NHPA Newsline subscription, Annual

Dues, mileage to and from EC meetings. The host club negotiates with their motel of

choice compensation rooms based on the number of rooms booked during the tournament

week. The association pays the remaining amount for EC members that stay at the motel.

It is estimated that these changes will reduce expenses $500.00 to $700.00 annually.

I mentioned in the June newsletter that John Peplinski would not seek reelection, as

Sec/Treas. Well I have good news!!! Marcela Santoyo of Oviedo has notified Jerry

Michalek Director of Nominating/Election Committee that she will run for Sec/Treas. I

want to thank Marcela for getting involved at the state level. I know that if Marcela is

elected to this position she will make a great Sec/Treas. Byron Jarrett, Second VP has

notified me that he will not seek reelection. Members that would like to run for this

vacated position should notify Jerry Michalek in writing by February 15, 2010.

Hope everyone had a great summer and I am looking forward to the upcoming

tournament season. Good luck, good pitching and keep smiling.
