Comments from the Sec/Ttres

December 2009

I have received the 2010 membership cards. A reminder that the 2009 cards expire on the 31st of

December so renew yours now.  As our tournament season is now in full swing make the effort to

schedule yourfive needed tournaments for this year’s state tournament. This will be our 50th anniversary

and I hope we willhave the largest participation to date. The Melbourne club and your state officers are

working hard to make this a special event. There will be a free anniversary patch given to all participants

and those purchasing a meal ticket will be eligible for a free $50 daily drawing.

The executive council has finalized this year’s team tournament. The format will be a 100%

Handicap count- all with no cap. This is a fun tournament and is the largest. I would like to see all Florida

Clubs participate. Clearwater will be the host club. The council will meet again in January to finalize this

year’s state tournament. If you would like to see some changes or have a suggestion please contact any

council member.

Roberta and I would like to wish every one a safe and happy holiday season, and look forward to

Seeing you at the courts.

REMEMBER; WE PROMOTE BY OUR ACTIONS ON AND OFF THE COURTS. REMAIN

PROPFESIONAL.

                                                COMMENTS FROM THE 4th VP

Greetings to all of you as the chill of fall and winter creeps ever closer to Florida.  I know that the heat

this year kept me in the air conditioning more than usual—what a scorcher!!    I am still looking for one

or two more volunteers to fill out the By-Laws committee. The Chairman of that committee is Jerry

Michalek.  Buddy Short graciously signed up to help on it with Jerry.  Thanks, Buddy!  There will be

some activity this year for this committee.  Anytime the NHPA enacts a change, it generally affects our

By-Laws somehow. That is what the committee does.  They also scour the By-Laws when we have

proposed changes within the State of Florida making sure a change in one section doesn’t have an adverse

affect on other sections.  Ah, the domino effect!!

There was an important announcement from the NHPA council which affects many of our Elder Men.

The current rule can be found in the RGS Book, pgs. 7-8, Rule - 1 –Pitching Divisions; Section E –

Elder Men (introductory information on eligibility).

Currently reads:

Section E – Elder Men (become eligible to pitch in the Elders Division at any time during the calendar

year that they become seventy (70) years old)

It was changed to:

Section E – Elder Men (become eligible to pitch in the in the Elders Division upon purchase of an NHPA

Card dated for the calendar year that they become seventy (70) years old)

The NHPA Executive Council unanimously voted to enact the change effective September 2009.  For

Further information on this change you can go the NHPA website.

I have run into several of our Elders who have already availed themselves of this change and established

Their ringer percentages.

Looking forward to seeing you at upcoming tournaments,
