Don Burrows Sr.

     2007

Born:    May 27, 1945         in Galopolis, Ohio

Wife:    Debbie;      3 Daughters, Donna, Lisa, and Crystal    1 Son, Donnie

                               and 12 grandkids

Don was raised in West Virginia and then moved to Florida in 1962. He worked in the Heating and Air Conditioning business before starting his own Don Burrows Best Stucco, Inc. business in 1982.

Don has been a member of the FSHPA for 13 years. He consistently gives the FSHPA Inc. and the game of horseshoes far and above that which is required of a member.

When the Brevard County Horseshoe Club decided to renovate their Cocoa courts, Don donated his time and the time of 5 of his employees to do the work. It took him and his employees a full week to tear out and replace six of the courts. When they were done the new courts were excellent. We cannot estimate the total cost incurred by Don in donating this time and work but we know it was in the hundreds and maybe a couple thousand dollars.

During the 2003 State Tournament held in Beverly Hills Don organized a group of members to stay after the pitching on Monday to correct some of the courts that needed updating. On Tuesday morning the courts were repaired and in much better playing condition. This is an example of Don’s willingness to help another club and do what was necessary to make the conditions better for the players.

Don received the 2003 FSHPA Inc. “Outstanding Member Award”.

In 2004 Don donated a considerable amount of his time and the time of his employees to upgrade the courts in Melbourne prior to the state tournament.

When the Oviedo club built a new clubhouse, Don again donated his time and material and the time of his employees to stucco their new clubhouse free of charge.

The hurricanes of 2005 destroyed the Palm Bay courts. The City of Palm Bay had their hands full and could do nothing to place the courts back in playing condition. Again, Don donated his time and effort to repair and place back in service 8 of the courts.

The 2007 State Closed Tournament will be held in Melbourne this year. The BCHC decided to update and improve the facilities at Wickham Park. Don again volunteered his time and the time of his employees to do the necessary work. He and his employees worked several days doing the repairs and improvements to ensure all the court sanctioning requirements were met. Again, we cannot estimate the cost to Don to help make this year’s State Tournament a success.

Don’s contributions and outstanding service to the State and the game of horseshoes more than qualify him for induction into the FSHPA Inc. Hall of Fame.
