Zoomer grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and retired as a manager for Hilltop Concrete and then worked as an automotive A/C mechanic. Zoomer started pitching horseshoes around 1980 at the Moose Lodge in Cincinnati. Zoomer moved to Florida in 1988 and continued working as an automotive A/C mechanic until his full retirement in 1991. Zoomer has lived in Tarpon Springs with his wife Pearl since 1989.

 

Zoomer joined the Clearwater Horseshoe Club and the FSHPA/NHPA Associations in 1991 and has been a member for the past 17 years. Zoomer has pitched in the Clearwater Horseshoe Club sanctioned league since 1991 where he has earned patches for a 60%, 70%, 80%, and 90% games, rookie of the year award, league high average award, league high game award, and league champion awards.

 

Zoomer pitched in the Men’s Division from 40 feet from 1991 thru 2003 averaging above 50% ringers, and pitching in Class A many of the years. From 2004 thru February 2007 Zoomer has pitched in the Elder’s Division. His Natstat ringer average during this time ranked him as one of the top players in the Florida Elder’s Division with a ringer average above 70%. His current Natstats average is 76.23% and he is ranked 11th in the NHPA Elder’s Division. Zoomer has won many sanctioned tournaments since 2004 and his top honor achievements are:

 

Florida Elder Men’s State Champion in 2005 and 2006.

Florida Elder Men’s Doubles State Champion with Wayne Cowger in 2005.

Florida Elder Men’s Doubles State Champion with Lee Post in 2006.

Florida Men’s Doubles State Champion with Ron Deckard in 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2003.

FSHPA 3rd Vice President for 6 years ( April 1997- April 2003)

 

Zoomer has served as Facilities Director of the Clearwater Horseshoe Club since 1993 and Publicity Director for most of those years. Zoomer is one of the club’s hardest workers, donating freely of his time, and also donating the fish for the fish fry when Clearwater hosts the state tournament. Zoomer was an avid bowler prior to taking up horseshoe pitching with two 300 games and averaging over 200 in league play for several years. Zoomer’s hobbies now are fishing and horseshoe pitching.

 

At the age of 74 Zoomer is still actively pitching in sanctioned leagues and tournaments in Clearwater, and is expected to be one of the top contenders for the Elder’s State Championship in 2007.  Zoomer has participated in horseshoe pitching exhibitions and actively promotes the sport of horseshoe pitching. Zoomer’s achievements as an outstanding pitcher qualify him for the Hall of Fame induction.
