COMMENTS FROM THE
I have received questions this year concerning the class prize fund for this year’s state tournament. As you may know that there are no refunds after April 1st. If there was a cancellation I changed the class prize fund to the smaller number class. After conferring with the executive council we agreed that the prize fund should remain the same. I have sent checks to those involved. I thank you for your comments and will continue to work for changes that will promote fairness to all members.
I also received a question on seeding participants in class. Entries are seeded by ringer percentage and the class sizes depend on the amount of entries and availability of courts. NHPA rules dictate the size of the championship classes (minimum three). In doubles, if the A class is handicapped we use the scratch scores to determine the state champion. Normally the two highest percentages team up and dominate the class. This situation is caused by a lack of high percentage pitchers.
The state tournament is the grand finale of the tournament season. The executive council is constantly looking for ways to increase your enjoyment and ad fairness and prize money to this event. This year there were few changes to the format. After many years of trying different formats we feel we have achieved the best to date.
The executive council will meet this August to discuss ways to increase our association’s income. Any constructive suggestions on this or any matter pertaining to our association, contact an executive council member.
Roberta and I would like to wish you a safe and healthy summer and look forward to seeing you at the courts this tournament season.

COMMENTS BY THE 2ND VICE PRESIDENT
JUNE 2008
Kudos for the Clearwater Club!!!!!
Those folks did themselves proud, as usual, and their performance was
enhanced by volunteer help from other clubs.
Everyone working together contributed to the overall success of the
State Closed Tournament. It was, I
think, a very well coordinated effort with events conducted as scheduled. I am pleased to have been a part of it and
hope you are too. I proffer my
congratulations to all the winners who have been named elsewhere in this Newsletter. I also think that everyone who participated
is a winner for having experienced the competition and fellowship at the
tournament.
There is also an unsung group
of people who quietly served throughout the past season and who contributed much
to our organization. I refer to all the
various committee chairpersons and members who promote our sport and provide
for the administration of the FSHPA.
They continue to do a remarkable job and deserve recognition. For the next Newsletter I advocate
publishing a current organizational chart with the committees and members for
each.
I thank you for reelecting me
as the 2nd Vice President. I
will continue to do my best to support the best interest of the majority of our
members.
BYRON S. JARRETT, 2nd Vice President
