COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT

JUNE 2009

Congratulations to Verdell Woollard, Women’s State Champion, Ron Deckard, Men’s State Champion, Tommy Hall, Elders State Champion and Leland Reynolds Jr., Boy’s State Champion. Tommy Hall also was the Triple Crown winner by winning the mixed doubles, doubles and class. Nice going Tommy! I would also like to congratulate all class champions.

Congratulations to Verdell Woollard and Warren Woolsey on being inducted into the Hall Of Fame.

Thanks to Eileen Fox and the members of the Beverly HSC on being an outstanding host. It was a pleasure to work with them all over the past year. The awards banquet was a success and Ferrara’s catering done an outstanding job in serving us in a timely manner and of course the food was great!

St Cloud HSC will host the 2011 State Tournament. The last time they hosted a State Tournament was 1999 and we are all glad that they are now willing to host a State Tournament again. This now makes four clubs that will be in the rotation. St Cloud is a small club and I assured them that they would get all the help they need from other clubs during the week of the tournament. That is what it is all about, helping each other out and making it easier on the host club.

The Executive Council will not meet until October 30^th where we will discuss the Club Team Tournament format. I can assure you that we will come up with rules for this tournament that will not be changed and a tournament will be held in Clearwater on January 30, 2010. As I stated in the past this is a fun tournament and the second biggest event that we have during the tournament season. Another item that we covered at our annual meeting is splitting the doubles and singles tournament. There appears to be some interest in this format from the clubs represented at this meeting.

My home club will be hosting next years State Tournament. This will be the 50^th anniversary for our association. This is a milestone for our association and we hope to make this a memorable event. I will be working closely with Jerry Michalek President BCHC, Byron Jarrett Publicity Director and Jim Smith Publicity Chairman in getting as much publicity through the print media, Orlando TV stations and local Chambers. We also would like to see an increase in participation from our members. So make plans now to attend next year’s 50^th anniversary.

Past President, Jerry Randall passed away on Saturday May 9^th. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Prior to Jerry Randall’s passing Jerry Michalek with the approval of the EC has been appointed to take his place. Jerry, as most of you know is a Past President and he will be an asset to our council. Welcome back Jerry!

In closing I look forward to serving as President for the next two years. The council and myself will continue to do what is best for you the members.
