COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT

MARCH 2007

This year’s tournament season will soon come to a close with my home club hosting this years State Tournament. Our club is ready for this event and we all are looking forward to it. Check out the State website or the BCHC website for all the latest information concerning the State Championship tournament. Jim Smith and Marvin Grubb keep both Websites updated. We also will be hosting the Three Person Team Tournament on April 16 and 17. The new format of having a computer select the team was first used at Beverley Hills last year and was voted on at last years Annual Meeting to continue this format. The rules of this tournament are published elsewhere in this newsletter. So sign up and enjoy pitching with members from other clubs.

In the December Newsletter I mentioned a proposal by Fast Sports that promotes sporting events and showed interest in promoting a Horseshoe Tournament with added prize money. On December 9th we held a special meeting in Orlando with Fast Sports and found out that the added money that they were talking about was not added money that they let us to believe in an earlier meeting. When it got right down to it the prize money would come from entry fees and any sponsors that Fast Sports or we could obtain. Needless to say we decided not to pursue this any further at this time. For further information please refer to the minutes of our special meeting published in this Newsletter.

Congratulations to the Clearwater Horseshoe Club on winning the Club Championship Tournament for 2007. This was the second year in a row that only 5 clubs were represented (Bradenton, Brevard, Clearwater, Oviedo and St Cloud) with a total of 9 teams competing. Clearwater will be the host club for this event in 2008 and hopefully more clubs will participate.

For the past 10 months we have been without a Game Related Items representative for you the members. I am happy to announce that we have secured the services of Boyd and Jean Stonerock owners of Lucky Shoe Pro Shop. They will try and get to as many club tournaments as possible (not this year but next) so you can meet them and see what they have to offer. But in the meantime you can visit their website by accessing the FSHPA Inc website which will have a link to Lucky Shoe Pro Shop website.

According to Jim Strain President of The Villages, informed me that our friends at Lady Lake and The Villages was not affected by the recent storms that passed through their area. We can be thankful that our members were spared the death and destruction that took place in their area.
