VERDELL J. WOOLLARD

CANDIDATE FOR 3RD VICE PRESIDENT

I wish to announce my candidacy for re-election for FSHPA 3rd Vice President.  I am currently the 3rd Vice President and have served in this position for the last six years.  My main job the last six years was to do the yearly Schedule of Tournaments for the State of Florida.  I enjoyed working with the Tournament Directors scheduling their 88 tournaments last year and also reporting the results of their club tournaments to NATSTATS.

Another duty for the 3rd Vice President is to be the Director of the Junior Program Committee.   We are very fortunate in the State of Florida to have Eileen Fox as the Chairperson of the Junior Program Committee.  It has been a pleasure to work with Eileen and her committee.   I am also on the US Family Foundation Board of Directors, which handles the Florida Junior Horseshoe Pitchers Scholarship Award.

I have been very busy the last three and a half years as the Florida State Statistician.  I have learned an enormous amount about the Florida Data Base from Marvin Grubb and John Peplinski.  I have been recording players’ ringers and shoes pitched, games won and lost, and entering address changes and dues paid, and then sending the tournament results to NATSTATS.  It has been a very educational and great life experience.

Jim Smith has been very patient with me showing me how to update the Horseshoe Clubs Web Sites with the results of their tournaments, so that when he goes on vacation I can be his backup.

I will continue to work hard and will help in any way I can for the improvement of this Great Sport of Horseshoes.  I would also like to help make our Florida World of Horseshoes a fun place to be.

I would appreciate your support and your vote for re-election.

                                                   Thank you!

Verdell J. Woollard (Dell)

Comments from the Sec/Tres

March 2009

Beverly Hills will be this year’s host for the State Tournament. The executive council met January 23 and finalized the format. All the information you need to enter is in this newsletter. The web site will be updated daily as the entries are posted. The final pitching schedule will also be posted. This should be completed the first week in April. Consult the web site for your pitching schedule as there will be no mailing of the schedule. If you do not have access to the internet, call your club president or any officer for your schedule.

The Annual Club-Executive Council meeting will be held April 22, 2009. Just a reminder that, only the executive council, club presidents or their designee will be eligible to cast a vote at this meeting.

Splitting the doubles and single competition to separate tournaments will be discussed. There are “pro’s and con’s” to this issue. Let your club president know your feelings on this before the meeting.

As of this writing our membership is down by 35 members, compared to last year at this time. Could it be the dues increase or the state of the economy? It is still too early to tell, let’s hope it increases before the state tournament.

Roberta and I are looking forward to seeing everyone at this year’s state tournament. Beverly Hills has proven to be a excellent host and is a fun place to pitch. Please make every effort to attend.

                                                                                           John Peplinski
