NEWS RELEASE JANUARY 11, 2010 Brevard County site of 2010 Florida State Horseshoe Championships This April horseshoe pitchers from all over the state of Florida will converge on Wickham Park in Brevard county. They will participate in the Florida State Horseshoe Championships on its very special 50th anniversary. Activities commence on Monday April 19th with the two day three man team event. Several categories of doubles competition follow on April 21 and 22. Singles commence on Friday and end on Saturday with the determination of the State Champions in five classes, mens, womens, elders, boys, and girls. Featured player in the mens singles will be Ron Deckard of Tampa, three times senior men's world champion and ten times Florida State Champion. He will be intensely challenged by a host of top pitchers, including 2007 State Champion Jessie Wayne Goforth from Bradenton, 2006 runner up John Peplinski of West Melbourne, and five others who will make up the championship class. Women will be faced with the task of unseating the 2005, 2007, 2008, and current women's champion Dell Woollard from Apollo Beach. Among the top contenders facing Dell will be Debbie Burrows from Palm Bay, the 2002, 2003, and 2004 State Champion and 2006 State Champion Linda Smith from Lady Lake. Play will start mornings at 8:00 or 9:00 AM and continue throughout the day. Spectators are welcome. this April. Pitchers from all over the state will converge on Wickham Park to
test their skills on the very special 50th anniversary of this event.All told there will be nine different categories in which champions will be
crowned. In addition to the men’s, women’s, elder’s, boy’s, and girl’s
singles there will be four different doubles competitions.However it is not just a challenge for the top players in the state.
Horseshoe pitchers of all skill levels will have a chance to win in the
intermediate and beginners classes.Activities begin on April 19th with a three person team competition. This is
a fun event and is open to pitchers outside the state of Florida. The
closed events begin on Wednesday April 21st. These events are open
only to Florida residents.Pitching will start at 1 PM on Wednesday and at 8 or 9 AM on Thursday through

over 70 tournaments held throughout the state. The weeklong event will
begin with the three person team competiton, that will commence on Monday April 19.Wednesday, April 21st features the mixed distance doubles, where each pair
consist of one player pitching from 40 feet and the other pitching from 30
feet. Regular doubles held on Thursday will include catagories for men,
women, and elders. All will be intensely contested.Singles competitions take place on Friday and Saturday. Pitchers of all skill
levels will attempt to prevail in each of the approximately forty
classes and categories. Saturday afternoon's contests will
determine the top individual champions.A complete list of competitors in all categories and classes will be available
