I would like to congratulate the 16 members who participated in this years World Tournament. Ron Deckard our state champion is now also the senior men’s world champion. Regina Hawes is the senior women’s champion. Good going Ron and Regina.

I expect to receive the 2008 membership cards early October. Please make an effort to renew your card early. The current membership card expires on December 31, 2007 and you will need a 2008 card for the January tournaments. As of this writing we have 374 adult and 7 junior members. Last year we had 399 adult and 10 juniors.

Just a reminder that you will need 5 tournaments to enter this years State Tournament, hosted by the Clearwater Horseshoe Club, April 2008. There are 72 tournaments scheduled before March 31, 2008. Plan to get your five in early.

Roberta and I would like to express our sympathy to the family of James Hess of the Clearwater Club. Jim was an active member and will be missed by all of us in the horseshoe world.

“On Top Of the World Horseshoe Club” This is the name of the club newly formed in Ocala. Congratulations to all involved in forming this club. There is a lot hard work and commitment in this undertaking. We wish you good luck and success and hope to be present for you first of three tournament scheduled this year.

As our tournament season begins I am looking forward to seeing you all at the courts. Good luck and good pitching.

REMEMBER: WE PROMOTE BY OUR ACTIONS ON AND OFF THE COURTS. REMAIN PROFESSIONAL.

I hope everyone has had a fun summer.  It was good to see the list of competitors for the World Tournament and the results.  I recognized the names of many Florida members who participated and could put faces to the names.  I’m sure everyone who attended this year had a memorable time.   I look forward to competing in the future, schedule permitting.

My husband, Dale & I have already looked at the FSHPA tournament schedule and tentatively identified the ones we’ll be able to attend this next year here in Florida.  We like to ‘get away’ from home once in a while so Dale and I pitched at the Suwannee club in July.  It was very warm and humid that day. We really enjoyed pitching somewhere we had never visited.  There’s beautiful scenery around that area and lots of farming not related to groves.  I didn’t realize we had that kind of agriculture here.  We even got a great full breakfast at the Shriners Club, who serve it on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays there in Fanning Springs for a mere $4.00.

I look forward to seeing you all pitch this year in one of the tournaments. The schedule has been honed and polished as of the 13th of August and a new club on it, too!!
