Comments From First Vice President & Regional Director

We at the Clearwater Horseshoe Club are all very saddened by the loss of Jim Hess who passed away on Sunday, August 5th, 2007. As many of you know Jim Hess was the Tournament Director and one of the club’s active workers. We are very thankful for all that Jim did for our club and for his friendship. He will be missed by all of us.

I will be taking over the Tournament Director position at the Clearwater Horseshoe Club for all of the 2007/2008 season. Please send your tournament entry fee in at least 7 days prior to tournament day. The Wednesday prior to the tournament day will be my deadline for accepting late entries, but please help all of the tournament directors by getting your entry fee in early. I hope all of you are having a happy and healthy summer and are looking forward to the new tournament season.

Several of us from Florida attended the World Tournament this year in Ardmore, Oklahoma and had a really great time. Congratulations to all of you on your pitching performance, you represented the state very well.

At the NHPA convention meeting this year Springfield, IL was awarded the 2009 World Tournament. The Rule Change Proposals were voted on individually at the NHPA convention meeting and all of them failed. None of them got the necessary 2/3 majority vote.

The recertification of the horseshoe courts in the state by the Regional Director and Assistant Regional Directors by the deadline of December 31, 2007 is going well. Each charter club will be issued a conditional or full court sanction certificate based on the rules in the new RGS book which took effect January 1, 2007. I know the many hours of work by the local club members to get the horseshoe courts in good playing condition for this season will be greatly appreciated by all.

I hope to see you all at a tournament soon. Good Luck and Good Pitching.
