COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT
SEPTEMBER 2008
The NHPA By-Law change to raise the yearly dues from $12.00 to $17.00 was approved at the World Tournament convention to be effective beginning with the 2009 dues. Remember when our Game Related agent resigned in 2006 and we were unable to get a member to take over this appointed position. Since no member was willing to take over we lost $2000.00 of income yearly. Our association is also experiencing a shortfall of $2500.00 for the upcoming year. Executive Council is looking into ways to increase income to make up for this shortfall. Three options were proposed and are noted in our August 1, 2008 EC meeting minutes published elsewhere in the newsletter. If any member has a suggestion on how to increase revenue please contact any EC member or myself. I can assure you that all suggestions will be considered. At our annual Club/President meeting in April we will discuss these options and vote on which option (or two) should be implemented. Option to increase dues is a By-Law change that must be approved at our Annual Club-Presidents meeting.
Congratulation to Ron Deckard for placing first in the Senior Men’s Division A. Ron also placed first in the Senior Men’s Championship series making him the Senior Men’s World Champion two years in a row. Also congratulations to Byron Jarrett finishing second in the Senior Men’s Division D, Howard Hawes finishing second in the Senior Mens Division E, Wayne Dusenbery finishing second Elders Division D and Ted Galvin finishing First in Elders Division K.
The past nine years Clearwater, Beverly Hills and Brevard HSC have hosted the State Tournament. I would like to see other clubs get involved in hosting the State Tournament. There are three clubs that have enough courts to host a State Tournament. They are Bradenton, Seabring and St Cloud. I have talked to all three at our last State Tournament to see if any would be interested. Although I did not get a commitment from them I would like to see one of them host the 2011 State Tournament. If the three clubs I mentioned would host a State Tournament in the future it would spread the load for hosting every six years instead of every three years as it is right now. I will be in contact with all three clubs in the upcoming months and will keep you updated on the outcome.
We have a new club that was approved by the Executive Council called the Del Webb Spruce Creek Horseshoe Club located in Summerfield Fl. Officers are, George Andell President, Terri Kurzeja Vice President, Dick Boyles Sec/Treas and Tom Grills Tournament Director. They have 38 members at this time but only 3 belong to the association. There are no tournaments scheduled at this time for the 2008-2009 tournament season. I encourage President George Andell to submit dates for the upcoming tournament season.
Before you know it the 2008-2009 season will be in full swing and I look forward to seeing you during the tournament season.
