COMMENTS FROM THE SEC/TRES

By now you have probably heard that the NHPA has increased the dues from $12.00 to $17. The Florida executive council which inferably will have to increase our income has managed to go another year without an increase. The options are in the minutes listed in this newsletter. They will also be presented at the Club Presidents Meeting April 2009. At this time one or more of these proposals will have to be adopted for the following year.

I expect to receive the 2009 membership cards early in October. Please note the attached member application and purchase your card early. The total fee will be $27.00. No cards will be issued without the correct fee accompanied with the application.

As of this date we have 386 adult and 9 junior members. Last year’s was 374 adult and 7 juniors. I encourage everyone to visit the NHPA and Florida web site. There is a wealth of horseshoe information including this newsletter. The updated schedule,   State Tournament forms and entries are updated daily. Contact any officer or the editor Marvin Grubb to receive your newsletter on the web. This will help keep our cost down.

REMEMBER: WE PROMOTE BY OUR ACTIONS ON AND OFF THE COURTS. REMAIN PROFFESSIONAL.

COMMENTS FROM 4th VP

Do you like to be in control of your life?  Why not volunteer to be a part of the by-laws and constitution committee!  Your FSHPA is in need of a full committee to examine and help close up any loop holes in our by-laws.  Jerry Michalek volunteered to be the chairperson for this committee last year.  We need two or four other committee members to fill out this important group.  If you are interested, you may contact Jerry Michalek at 321-632-2527 or jnmichalek@bellsouth.net or you may contact me at 321-297-1802 or dvmarteney@juno.com.  I look forward to hearing from many of you. Thank you in advance.

SIGN A NEW MEMBER

Included in this newsletter are two copies of the required member information form.  The hope is that you will use one copy to renew your membership for 2009 and the second copy to sign up a new member.  Not only will you help the Association grow but by signing a new member your name will be entered into the annual new member lottery.  The new member lottery is a drawing held at the State Closed Tournament each year.  Your name will go into the lottery each time and every time you sign a new member.  Signing more than one member increases your chances of winning the drawing.  The prizes are cash and free tournament entries.  Show your enthusiasm for the game to your friends and just maybe they will want to join.
